5 WORKPLACE HABITS TO IMPLEMENT TODAY

November 05 2018

We all fall into routines at work and it’s crucial to develop and implement good workplace habits. These habits form the foundation for you to be successful at work. Practicing good habits will increase productivity, job satisfaction and successful workplace relationships.

Here are my top five good workplace habits:

1. ASK QUESTIONS

Don’t expect to know everything or feel discouraged when there is almost always more to learn. In addition, don’t be afraid to admit when you don’t have an answer. Ask questions so you don’t spread false information or make an avoidable mistake. Your co-workers and upper management are there to help you grow and learn – use them as a resource.

2. BE ORGANIZED AND PREPARED

I’ve blogged about this before (click here), but it’s crucial to stay organized and plan ahead. This will make you more systematic and efficient so you can complete tasks and stay on top of your to-do list.

3. OVERESTIMATE YOUR TIMELINE

Expect the unexpected and, when possible, add in a bit of a buffer into work timelines.  Give yourself the time to proofread your work, review and confirm data and ensure your work is free of errors.

4. STAY OFF YOUR PHONE AT WORK

Unless for work purposes, you should put your phone away and stay off social media. Texts, messages, calls and various updates and notifications can be a huge distraction and get in the way of your productivity.

5. PLAN FOR THE WORST, HOPE FOR THE BEST

We’ve all had one of those moments where our computer crashes or we forgot to save a file. As I said before, it’s best to expect the unexpected and in the workplace it’s important to have a back-up for when things go wrong.

There are innumerous workplace habits that can make your time at work more impactful, but by adding these workplace habits into your daily routine, you’re guaranteed to work more efficiently.

All the Best,
