BLOG TAKEOVER – THE VALUE OF AN INTERNSHIP

Hi! My name is Ashley Lewis and I am currently the marketing intern at Kingsgate. A little bit about myself: I am a senior at Miami University in the Farmer School of Business, studying marketing and international business.  In a few short weeks, I’ll be graduating and finishing up my internship with Kingsgate. As I’ve been prepping for these changes, I’ve started reflecting on my professional experiences over the last four years. I have been fortunate enough to have three diverse internships that have not only provided me with many learning opportunities, but have served as a guide for where I want to take my career after graduation. I’ve taken over the blog this week to talk about the importance of different internships experiences and the value of an internship at Kingsgate:

Internships help you: Find your passion

As a freshman or sophomore in college, you may not be confident in where you want your career to go. Most people aren’t. However, internships provide students with an opportunity to explore their strengths, weaknesses, interests, and passions.

Internships help you: Network

Internships help grow your professional network, and not just the number of connections on LinkedIn. I have built relationships with managers, mentors and co-workers that I know will last after my time has ended as an intern. You can use these people as resources for professional advice, job opportunities, and even personal growth. The relationships that you build during an internship can be helpful down the road.

Although all of my internships have been rewarding, my time at Kingsgate has been extra special for a few reasons:

Every day is Different 

At Kingsgate, no day is ever the same. Jeff always says that Kingsgate has a “start-up” mentality, and with that comes innovation. Every day at Kingsgate has presented me with a new challenge or exposed me to a new component of marketing. One day I am developing the social media strategy, and the next I’m assisting with our digital and print advertisements. I couldn’t be more thankful for the learning opportunities Kingsgate has given me!

The Kingsgate Culture

Every aspect of the Kingsgate culture is unique. I am surrounded by energetic, hardworking, and passionate people, who turn a simple occasion into a celebration (like Shark Week or Office Olympics). Not only do I enjoy going to work every day because of the people, but because I know I am valued at Kingsgate. As an intern, I am constantly encouraged to throw out new ideas and bring them to the Kingsgate leadership team. It is rare to find a workplace where the opinions of interns are valued just as much as the high-level managers.
