DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME?

February 13 2017

With Kingsgate more than doubling in size, we’ve had a huge number of interviews in our office. Whether you’re a soon to be college graduate or an experienced professional, job interviews can be nerve wracking. Preparation is vital to any job interview.

You may not know what questions the interviewer will ask, but you can know the questions that YOU are going to ask. You should have a list of questions prepared for your interviewer; anticipate him or her answering a few of these and have backups. Questions demonstrate your genuine interest in the position and help you gain a deeper understanding of a company. Here are a few of my favorites:

1. What characteristics do successful people in this position exhibit?

Use this question as a chance to understand more fully what this position will entail. If your skills match those, respond with specific examples on how you have exhibited those traits in your previous experiences.

2. What sets your company apart from others in the industry?

Asking this question will allow the interviewer to give insight into the company’s background, culture, and principles. Now that you had your sales pitch, it is their turn to sell their company to you.

3. Do you have any concerns about my ability or background?

This is a bold question. However, it shows the interviewer that you welcome feedback. It may even help you improve for future interviews.

4. What are you hoping to see from the person who fills this position?

People (even interviewers) like to talk about themselves. If you can understand their goals, it can help you showcase yourself as the person who can accomplish these.

5. What is the most difficult part about this job?

Interviews are a two-way street. You’re there to have a conversation and see if you’re a good fit for the career and if a company is a good fit for you. Make sure the difficult aspects of a job are going to help you improve your skills and put you on a path for success.

Asking a few of these questions will provide you with more insight into a company, what they’re looking for and whether they are the right fit for you. One final quick tip, don’t forget to write a follow up note or email to thank the interviewer(s) for taking time to speak with you!

Do you have any “go-to” questions for the end of an interview?

All the Best,

Jeff Beckham
