Conference Countdown: Making Conferences Easy as 1-2-3

If you follow Kingsgate on social media, you’ve seen our team has been attending conferences right and left! Recently, we’ve had representatives at the Women in Trucking Accelerate! Conference in Dallas, TX, the McLeod Software User Conference in Denver, CO, the comSpark Innovation Tech Summit 2019 in Cincinnati, OH, DATCON19 in Austin, TX and many others. These conferences have allowed our team to get involved and be active in our industry. Conferences allow companies to share helpful information, while also being great opportunities for networking, connecting and developing.

I am a believer that you get what you give and being engaged at the conference sessions will result in the best takeaways. To get the best ROI on your time and money spent, follow these three easy steps:

1. Pack and Prepare

Before attending a conference, whether it’s in your city or states away, you need to do some prep work. Research the speakers, breakout sessions and other attendees – make sure you have some familiarity with the event before you attend. Dress to impress and ensure you bring enough business cards for networking, which brings me to my next tip…

2. Participate in Sessions and Networking Events

No matter how experienced you are in your industry, there is always more to learn. Conferences are used as a resource to discover what is fresh in the industry and allows you to expand your horizons. In addition to the seminars and sessions at the conference, there plenty of networking opportunities. Competitors and peers in your field can often be extremely valuable assets! When attending any conference, be ready to make contacts for potential future collaborations.

3. Pay Attention to Your Fellow Participants

Your fellow participants are also your competitors in the industry and understanding how your company stacks up to others in the industry allows for expansion and improvement. Lastly, your fellow conference participants can most likely empathize with the difficulties and struggles you may be working with and provide understanding. They may be able to present a fresh strategy to tackle problems as well.
