When DAT Went Down

January 27 2020

Two weeks ago, on Jan. 16th, DAT had an outage that lasted for a little under 24 hours, but what may seem like a short time frame had an immense impact on how Kingsgate typically operates. Over the past decade, DAT has become the largest and most depended on load board for carriers and brokers alike. Despite this ripple in the supply chain, our team still moved forward and shipped our customers’ loads. I’m extremely proud of the hard work our team put forth while in crisis mode.

With over 30 years of experience, the longevity of our relationships with our customers and carriers is the backbone of our business. Our customers know that when we make a commitment, there’s no stopping us in seeing it through. No matter the challenge or the roadblocks that stand in the way, Kingsgate has their back. This reliability stems from our team having well over 255 years of combined experience to fall back on as well as our relationships with trusted carriers. We value our carriers and know without them, we would not be able to fulfill our promises to our customers.

One of our Kingsgate account managers, Roman, said, “last week, DAT crashed and failed, as any technology is bound to at some point, but the Carrier Sales team still continued to cover loads. I wanted to acknowledge the team for your efforts and showing that the people are the heart and soul of any organization. I appreciate your hard work and thank you.”

The post above reminded me that technology is only as good as the people behind it and that our team didn’t let this outage stop them from being problem solvers. They found multiple ways around the outage and as another Account Manager, Melissa, said, “where other 3PLs may have been struggling, our software enabled us to search our own very large carrier database for load coverage.”

Our industry comes with different challenges and no day is the same, but we are always prepared to navigate whatever roadblocks stand in the way.

A thank you to the DAT team that worked to get this outage fixed as quickly as they could. Also, thank you to our carrier network for being reliable and consistent for our team. Lastly, a HUGE thank you to the Kingsgate Family for working hard to push through this unexpected change. We wouldn’t be Kingsgate without you!

All the Best,

Jeff Beckham
