Blog Takeover - Defining Organizational Culture

February 03 2020

I write about Kingsgate’s company culture frequently in our blogs. At Kingsgate, we’re dedicated to creating a fun, hard-working and family-oriented company culture. It’s part of “Keeping it Kingsgate.” One of our IT co-ops from the University of Cincinnati, Kharajae M., noted our company culture in his co-op report and I wanted to share his words with all of you:

My definition of organizational culture has changed and gained another level of depth and dimension. At first, my answer would have been, “Organization culture, to me, is the customs of an organization.” Now, I see that organizational culture is much bigger and has more depth than just that; meaning it takes more than just one sentence to describe. Organizational culture encompasses several different elements: company achievements, integrity, preferred customs, beliefs, goals, objectives and more. Organizational culture is the way a business operates day in and day out. It’s almost as dynamic as a living human being with emotions because the culture could change slightly depending on the day, along with other various factors and details that could be affecting employees at the organization at the time.

An important lesson that I’ve learned during my co-op experience with Kingsgate Logistics is that the organization does not make the culture. The individuals at the organization determine the overall organization's culture and when you have a group of determined employees focused on similar goals, everyone involved can be satisfied.

Kingsgate’s organizational culture is fun and fast-paced while maintaining a relaxed feel. I admire the pride the company holds on its shoulders knowing that it is a top-tier competitor in its market that is nowhere near its peak in terms of innovation and relevance in the market. Despite its success in the past, Kingsgate Logistics remained a family-oriented company that truly cares about its employees and clients. One could speculate that this is the reason the morale inside the organization is very high and friendly. The leaders of the organization value relationships, integrity, and innovation - this is important to note because it leads to the high morale of the employees and even the clients that do business with Kingsgate.

It always excites me to see how our culture impacts our employees and that these were the take-a-ways from one of our own. I’m continually proud to be a part of the Kingsgate Family!

All the Best,

Jeff Beckham
