Thanksgiving Transportation

In just three days (including today), people around the nation will be celebrating Thanksgiving. Some will be fortunate to celebrate in person, while some will celebrate virtually. We are certainly living in strange times and it’s no different for the logistics industry. Some constants will remain for the transportation industry in 2020, but there will be some major changes as well.

First, it seems fewer people will be on the road traveling to see family. According to this Transport Topic story, “With virus cases surging, hospitals filling up and more U.S. states imposing restrictions, Americans are likely to drive a lot less this Thanksgiving. Only 35% will travel by car this year, down from 65% a year ago, according to survey from retail fuel tracker GasBuddy.” Those that will travel will be traveling much shorter distances. What does this mean for the supply chain, truckers and the logistics industry as a whole?
