KINGSGATE GIVES BACK: WHY GIVE BLOOD?

Today the Kingsgate Gives Back program is hosting a blood drive with the help of Hoxworth Blood Center. As many of you know, we lost our dad 7 years ago to leukemia, and in fighting the disease, he received an unbelievable amount of blood and platelets almost daily. It is unreal how badly blood donations are needed and often blood banks, like Hoxworth, run low.  Our Kingsgate Gives Back donations WILL SAVE LIVES. It’s a great honor to donate and something that has an amazing impact.

Hoxworth shared some information on why blood donation is so important and why we should all consider donating (if you’re able)!

• Blood is needed every two seconds.
• About one in seven people entering a hospital needs blood.
• Blood is always needed for treatment of accident victims, cancer patients, hemophiliacs and surgery patients.
• Blood cannot be manufactured.
• Only 37 percent of our country’s population is eligible to give blood, and less than 10 percent of those who can donate actually do donate annually.

Hoxworth’s blood supply comes from caring donors like you. It takes about one hour of your time. When you give blood, it gives someone another smile, another hug, another chance. It is the gift of life.
