MEET RIAN – KINGSGATE’S DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

September 10 2018

Last Tuesday, the Kingsgate family grew once again! We welcomed my daughter, Rian Beckham, as our new Director of Communications and Engagement. Rian is joining the 3rd generation of our family at Kingsgate and brought several years of leadership, corporate communications, and community engagement experience in the political sector, most recently working as a District Director for Congressman Warren Davidson.

We’re all excited to have Rian on board and see the ways she can help bolster Kingsgate’s growth. This is one of the many perks of a Family owned business – to work alongside your family and watch them contribute to the development of the company.

I asked Rian questions about her experience and what’s she’s looking forward to about joining our team and shared her thoughts below!

1. TELL ME A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND.

For the past seven years, I have primarily worked in a communications and outreach role for elected officials at the federal and state levels. I studied Organizational Communication at Xavier University and wanted to combine my undergraduate work with my passion for politics, and was able to do that following graduation. It was extremely rewarding getting to serve in that manner, but I always knew I would take a stab at the private sector one day. I’m excited to combine what I’ve learned in the public sector with my growing knowledge regarding the logistics industry; the future is bright ahead.

2. WHY DO YOU ENJOY COMMUNICATIONS AND HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START?

After graduating from Xavier with my communications degree, I took a press assistant job on Capitol Hill for a Cincinnati congressman. I was able to combine my passion for clear and effective communication with my passion for politics, and I have remained in communications type roles ever since. The fast-paced nature of these roles always keeps me on my toes, which I do enjoy. It’s exciting to see how different outlets of messaging evolve with constant shifts in technology and how people find information.

3. HOW DO YOU HOPE TO BOLSTER KINGSGATE’S GROWTH WITH YOUR INVOLVEMENT HERE?

Kingsgate has already done an incredible job growing, and I hope to keep the ball rolling. I believe there is still room for growth that can be accomplished by tapping into different markets and connecting with new folks at the local, regional, and national level. I’m hoping to be a key factor in the process.

4. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS/FEELINGS ABOUT JOINING THE FAMILY BUSINESS?

Joining Kingsgate feels like my career and life are coming full circle. This is the business that my grandparents started so that their kids, and their kids’ kids, could be successful and provide for their families. I’m looking forward to carrying out their legacy and following in my family’s footsteps.

5. WHAT’S ONE THING YOU’VE LEARNED ABOUT KINGSGATE SINCE WORKING HERE THAT SURPRISED YOU?

I’m surprised at how quickly I was able to sense and understand the company culture. Kingsgate truly cares about their employees and making the office a great place to work. I’m happy to be a part of the family.

We’re happy to have you, Rian!

All the Best,
