TRUCKER TUESDAY: A THANK YOU

March 27 2018

I wanted to hold off on our Monday blog and do a “Trucker Tuesday” post and here’s why… If you follow Kingsgate on Twitter you probably saw us share Transport Topics Cartoon of the Week this morning. This image shows a truck driver delivering a palette of basketballs to five athletes, one of which is saying, “we couldn’t win without you.” The image reminded me of my blog from July of 2016 on how trucking impacts YOUR world (linked here) and forced me to remember, yet again, that almost everything we touch has been on a truck or a part of the supply chain at some point.

Yes, even the NCAA March Madness basketballs, MLB World Series Baseballs and the NFL Superbowl Footballs (I know what you’re thinking, but let’s not even go there with deflategate…). Everything from the goods in stores, our homes, our offices to the biggest events in history are in the hands of those in the transportation industry, for at least a brief period of time.

There are men and women all over the world who work as professional truck drivers and deliver the goods that keep the global economy going. Here are just some of the things truck drivers do to ensure we have the items we all need:

  • They drive endless hours, across the nation all while staying alert to ensure the safety of our highways.
  • They manage and maneuver rigs, sometimes 70-75′ long, down highways and through narrow city streets to deliver necessary goods.
  • They have long and abnormal hours that keep them away from family and friends.
  • They safely drive through rain, sleet, hail, snow and any other weather condition Mother Nature has thrown their way.
  • And they do so much more!

Ultimately, we need truck drivers. We need them more than we acknowledge and we avoid them or cut them off or complain about them without thinking of the services they provide all of us. They’re doing their job to ensure our economy stays moving, stores have stocked shelves, you have food in your home and NCAA players have what they need to probably break your bracket (if it’s not already broken).

All the Best,
