SEEKING WORKPLACE FULFILLMENT INSTEAD OF HAPPINESS?

January 29 2018

Fulfillment is defined as, “the achievement or completion of something desired, promised or predicted.” At Kingsgate, we see fulfillment as more than just the completion of the process, it is a state of mind. That means that when we leave the office at the end of the day, we want to be sure of two things: that we’ve done right by our customers so that we feel right with ourselves. The choices we make directly affect the success of the businesses and people we work with. We see our impact on their bottom line. It’s why we choose the work we do and it feels good to know that we’ve helped others prosper and thrive.

Why do we place an emphasis on workplace fulfillment instead of just being happy? Simply because happiness comes and goes, whereas fulfillment is a constant.

Society places a huge value on being consistently happy when in reality 24/7 happiness is impossible. Especially at work; you have bad meetings, miss opportunities, have carriers back out on you and (if you’re doing things right) you fail again and again. These mistakes, setbacks, and failure are essential to growth, but they don’t make you happy.

However, fulfillment emphasizes the big picture and gives you mental stability during those inevitable failures. Our over 30 years of experience in logistics has taught us how to anticipate and navigate transportation roadblocks and we’ve learned to work through them for our customers. Knowing we’ve done right by our customers allows us to leave the office feeling fulfilled in our work. That doesn’t mean we didn’t encounter challenges but, that our team worked through those challenges to help their customers and they have a deep sense of satisfaction knowing that.

Work fulfillment is a mental state of being keenly aware that your work impacts those around you.

What do you think about workplace happiness versus fulfillment?

All the Best,

Jeff Beckham
