BEING THE “NEW GUY” AT KINGSGATE

January 22 2018

It’s never easy to be the “new guy.” Entering a group of people that already have an established relationship is nerve-racking enough, but then there’s juggling meeting new people, remembering those people’s names while making a good first impression and listening and absorbing new information. Ultimately, on that first day, you’re trying to make an unpredictable situation go off without a hitch.

At Kingsgate, we look for ways to avoid that first day, “new guy” feeling. We want our new hires to feel welcome and excited about their new opportunity, so I wanted to ask our two most recent additions to the Kingsgate Family about their first few days with Kingsgate.

Here’s what Lindsey and Tytus had to say:

  1. How long have you been at Kingsgate?
  • LINDSEY R. – 2 Weeks.
  • TYTUS C. – I started Jan. 8th so about 2 Weeks
  1. What did you know about third-party logistics before the interviewing process?
  • LINDSEY R. – I knew that they helped connect customers to carriers to ship product.
  • TYTUS C. – I knew that it would be contact with carriers as well as shippers/receivers.
  1. Describe your first day at Kingsgate.
  • LINDSEY R. – The environment was very friendly and welcoming. What stuck out the most to me is that everyone seemed to be genuinely happy to be here.
  • TYTUS C. – My first day at Kingsgate went differently than I had expected. Everyone was very welcoming, immediately making me feel like part of the family. What stuck out the most was the owners not acting as “owners.” ex: Coming into the sales floor to say good morning as well as at the end of the day.
  1. Describe your thoughts on the training program.
  • LINDSEY R. – The training program was very helpful! I really liked that they didn’t assume I knew anything and started from the basics up to more complex parts of the industry. Nathan, our sales manager, also presented the information very well.
  • TYTUS C. – The training program made me ready for success. The days in the program are long and full of work, but the week after you feel more prepared than expected.
  1. Describe the sales floor environment.
  • LINDSEY R. – The sales floor is very upbeat and engaging. It is a very teamwork oriented environment and everyone is willing to offer sales tips, and help answer any question that may come up.
  • TYTUS C. – The sales floor is different than any I have been on before. Even when people are busy with their own work, they will reach out and help if they see that you may be struggling.
  1. Do feel like part of the Kingsgate Family? And if so, what made you feel that way?
  • LINDSEY R. – Yes, I do feel like part of the family. Usually, when you start a new job people treat you different and more “stand-offish” toward you, but here, no one even skipped a beat and it has been like I have been here for years!
  • TYTUS C. – I felt part of the Kingsgate family from Day 1. Everyone who has seen me as a new face has introduced themselves and make sure I knew most everyone in the company.
  1. Lastly, what is your favorite thing, so far, about working at Kingsgate?
  • LINDSEY R. – I’d say the people. I have truly enjoyed coming into work and getting to learn a new industry by people who are truly invested in me and want to see me succeed.
  • TYTUS C. –  When someone rings the bell (which signals they gained a new client)! There’s candy and celebration and support everywhere, which as a sales guy you hope that it’ll be your turn next!

Thanks for reading and watching!

All the Best,

Jeff Beckham
