30 FACTS ABOUT KINGSGATE TRANSPORTATION

In the past 30 years, Kingsgate has seen changes in the industry, its office, management, employees and more. Here are 30 facts about the past 30 years at Kingsgate Transportation:

1. Kingsgate has been a  business since it began

2. Kingsgate was founded by Merry and Tom Beckham (my siblings, my wife and I now own the company)

3. Kingsgate started in my old bedroom in my parents’ basement

4. Kingsgate still has the first two clients with whom, we were founded, in 1986

5. The sales team has a ‘phone trophy’ to award the Logistics Solutions Manager that makes the most calls

6. We often called Amy Barnett, our managing partner (and my sister) our ‘cheermiester’ because she always rallies the troops and gets people excited

7. Kingsgate calls Dingle House, the Irish pub at the bottom of our building, the “downstairs conference room”

8. Every morning, Amy comes in and says good morning to the whole office before starting her day

9. In addition to being a family-owned business, we also have employees who are brothers, father and son, brothers-in-law, friends from high school, former clients and all walks of life

10. Kingsgate is the official logistics sponsor of the Cincinnati Reds and proud sponsor of the Xavier University student section

11. Kingsgate has a five-part value set (you can read about it in my previous blog)

12. As part of our growth and change, Kingsgate changed our logo in 2012 to our current logo

13. Kingsgate was named after the street Kingsgate Way, where Merry and Tom lived at the time of founding the company

14. Kingsgate has a fantasy football league between all the employees (and things get pretty intense)

15. Amy Barnett’s first person she fired was her own husband (having a family business isn’t always easy)

16. Kingsgate used to have a subsidiary called “Express Delivery” which we sold in 1999

17. Our first official name was “Kingsgate Transportation Sales” or “KTS” for short

18. Our sales team rings a bell after every successful sale and is awarded with candy

19. Kingsgate is hoping to hire 55 more employees within the next 18 months

20. We have two members of the 3rd generation of the founding family working at Kingsgate

21. Kingsgate has moved into 5 different offices until landing in our current office

22. Kingsgate’s employees represent over 16 different colleges

23. Kingsgate has doubled in size, going from 18 to 45 employees in 18 months

24. Kingsgate was founded in 1986

25. We have been women-owned since our founding

26. We still have two of our first four non-family hires on our team

27. In 2015, Kingsgate moved to a new space off Union Center in West Chester, OH

28. When we moved to this new space, we tripled our square footage space

29. Kingsgate started its internship program in the Summer of 2016

30. I had to take a pay cut when I came to work for my own parents almost 30 years ago
