30 YEARS OF KINGSGATE – TOLD BY THE SECOND GENERATION: DAVID BECKHAM

October 10 2016

If you follow Kingsgate on social media, there’s a chance you’ve seen that we are currently celebrating our 30th year of being in business! In 1986, my parents opened Kingsgate’s doors in our home, (actually our first “office” was my old bedroom). Flash forward 30 years to 2016, and we’ve changed offices twice, doubled in size and seen the ups and downs of owning a family business. For the first few weeks in October, I’ve asked our managing partners (otherwise known as my siblings and wife) a few questions. Up first, my youngest sibling, David. As you can see, he’s quite the talker.

What is your position in the company? Owning Partner

What department do you operate? Operations

How long have you worked for Kingsgate? 24 years

1. What is it like to work with your Siblings (or sibling-in-laws)? In what ways do you feel support from your family?

It is actually pretty fun. Since we are in three different departments, we are not around each other all day. It reminds me of when we all lived at home. We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses so we are able to align ourselves to have the best success.

2. Describe watching your parents (or in-laws) found Kingsgate.

I was too young to really remember what was going on, (notice how he throws that one in my face!) but I do remember the sense of pride my parents had having something that was theirs.

3. What was the biggest change in the company (other than ownership) in the past 30 years?

I believe that technology has been the biggest change since I started. At the end of the day a driver still drives the truck, but everything else that touches that load has changed because of technology.

4.  What was the best lesson your parents (or in-laws) taught you in the establishing and owning of Kingsgate?

For our customers, they said to always do what we say we are going to do and for our employees, to always treat them fair and give them the best tools to be successful. If we do those two things everything else should fall into place.

5.  If there was one thing you could thank your parents (or in-laws) for what would it be?
I would thank them for having the courage to start their own business and trusting us to continue the success they had.

Follow us on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to see our 30th anniversary celebrations!

All the Best,

Jeff Beckham
