30 YEARS OF KINGSGATE – TOLD BY THE SECOND GENERATION: AMY BARNETT

October 17 2016

Last week my brother (David) took over the Kingsgate blog. This week it’s my sister’s turn. Amy is the glue that holds both our family and the Kingsgate family together. She’s always looking for fun things to do and ways to get people involved and excited. We’ve even begun referring to her as our “Chief Culture Officer”. I’ll let her explain the rest…

What is your position in the company? Owning Partner

What department do you operate? Accounting

How long have you worked for Kingsgate? 28 years

1. What is it like to work with your Siblings (or sibling-in-laws)? In what ways do you feel support from your family?

It’s amazing to work side-by-side with my brothers and sister-in-law. We are each other’s number one cheerleaders. We are open and honest; communication is the key. We were taught early on that business is business and family is family. It’s also great own a company with people who value our core principles.

2. Describe watching your parents (or in-laws) found Kingsgate.
I knew from the first two weeks of my parents opening Kingsgate that it would be successful.  Growing up, I watched my parents struggle to make ends meet. It’s been an honor to see them succeed and value every cent they have earned. It’s been a true Cinderella story for them.

3. What was the biggest change in the company (other than ownership) in the past 30 years?

Besides the industry of logistics changing, one of the biggest change is taking Kingsgate to the next level. The first gen set up the company and the second gen is growing it.

4. What was the best lesson your parents (or in-laws) taught you in the establishing and owning of Kingsgate?

Don’t sweat the small stuff, always be open and honest with siblings, pay your taxes on time, work is work and family is family.

5. If there was one thing you could thank your parents (or in-laws) for what would it be?

This question brings tears to my eyes. I want the thank them for always being there, for not judging me, for loving me unconditionally. My accomplishments is because I had them by my side.

All the Best,
