WHY WE’RE PROUD TO BE WOMEN OWNED

July 11 2016

Kingsgate Transportation is proud to have been a women-owned business since 1986. My mom, Merry Beckham, originally had the idea to start Kingsgate Transportation, and she and my dad, created a company that has grown tremendously. When the second generation took over the company in 2010, my siblings, wife and I made the decision to keep the company a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) to honor the roots that helped us get us our success today. Being a women-owned business has benefits for our company, empowers other women and helps us remain grounded by our founding principles. Here is why we are proud to be women-owned:

Our women helping our company and employees

There are many benefits to having women as leaders in an office. Women have a strong, positive impact on company culture – women lead with passion and seek out the growth of those around them. According to a large research study done by Jack Zenger and Joseph Folkman for the Harvard Business Review, women leaders have also been proven to be incredibly results-driven while encouraging the integrity of their company. As any business person knows, results are the lifeblood of a company, and a company’s integrity leads to a relationship of trust between employees, management and clients.

Empowering women in a male dominated industry

As of 2015, the transportation industry is 77.4% male and only 22.6% female, as reported by the United States Department of Labor. We’ve already discussed the importance and benefits of women being active leaders in companies; as a women-owned business, we encourage collaboration for other women in the industry by promoting and working with women in trucking. Companies, like Kingsgate, have thrived by forming relationships and partnerships. We find that by partnering with like-minded groups, we can continue to promote both the success of women in the transportation industry, and the success of the industry itself.

Sticking to our roots

As I briefly mentioned, Kingsgate has remained a Women-owned business for the 30 years it’s been in business. Kingsgate was founded on three basic principles that have led to our success – hard work, exemplary service and highest integrity. We believe it is vital to stay true to the foundation built by the founders of the company. Being women-owned is part of who we are. We continue to deliver the same excellence because we’ve never lost sight of the values that have continued to better us over the years.

What benefits do you think being a women-owned business brings to a company?

All the Best,

Jeff Beckham
